School Charism/Patron Saint
Saint Maria Goretti
Our school was named after a young Italian girl, Maria Goretti, who lost her life at the age of 11 in order to protect her purity. She asked a visiting priest for forgiveness for her assassin just before her death, and later she appeared to her attacker in a dream, personally granting him forgiveness and an armful of white lilies as a peace offering.
She was canonized in 1950, and is the patroness of youth, but St. Maria Goretti's story is most recognized for its lessons in forgiveness. Maria Goretti led a simple life. Her great faith and love for God made her truly extraordinary, and we carry on her memory today through our faith-based education at St. Maria Goretti High School.
St. Maria Goretti, pray for us!
